Announcements

Libraries Unlimited ceased publication of Children’s Magazine Guide with the end of volume 62 (August 2010). This difficult decision was made so that we may focus on our core publishing business and continue to provide high quality professional resources for libraries.

The archived, fully searchable content of Children’s Magazine Guide will continue to be available to you online thru August 2011—free of charge. It covers citations of magazine articles and websites from September 2001 through August 2010. Go to http://cmg.lu.com. When you get to the login screen, log in as previously (with your existing login and password) or click “BEGIN” to create a free account. You will have full access and the option to customize search results according to what’s offered in your magazine collection.

Libraries Unlimited/Linworth continues to publish School Library Monthly and Library Media Connection. These professional journals feature articles and engaging activities relevant to your work. You can subscribe to either of these award-winning magazines by visiting their websites, www.schoollibrarymonthly.com and www.librarymediaconnection.com.

CMG Online is free with your print subscription! To start your subscription today, call CMG customer service at 1-800-368-6868 ext. 550, or email orders@abc-clio.com. If you already are a subscriber, simply register for CMG Online here by using your account code, which you can find on the mailing label of each print issue.

Designed for beginning and advanced searchers, CMG Online provides fast access to a wealth of carefully annotated citations of recent articles from more than 60 children's magazines, plus Web sites. Students will be able to find in a heartbeat what they are looking for—be it for a report or just for fun—and you have an invaluable tool at hand for teaching information research skills. Best of all, you have the option to limit the searches according to what's offered in your magazine collection.

Don't forget, Children's Magazine Guide now features the Index of Professional Journals—School Library Edition. This index is located in the back of each print edition of CMG and includes magazine articles from six major school library magazines:
Knowledge Quest
Library Media Connection
LibrarySparks
School Library Journal
School Library Media Activities Monthly
Teacher Librarian

Articles are organized by A to Z subject headings which follow SEARS. We do, however, take the liberty to adjust certain subject headings or create new ones to better serve you. Unique to this index are subject headings such as “Library Programs” or subdivisions such as “Storytime” (e.g., Automobiles—Storytime). In addition, since this is an index of articles directed at the school library profession, the main subject heading “School Libraries” is typically assumed. Therefore, subject headings such as “Collection Development” and “Automation” are their own main subject headings in this index, instead of “School Libraries - Collection Development” and “School Libraries - Automation.”
